Fr Leo Martel

Election Day and I've done my duty.

Now I must bring you up to date on my new romance. You know the fellow, Frank Shields, that I was quite upset about the morning we took you back to VT. Well, he finally asked me out.

To put it mildly, I've been sweating him out for quite some time. He's friendly at work but extremely shy. He came over last Wednesday and talked but nothing happened. So I went home, brushed my hair to was it, had the refrigerator torn apart ready to wash it and was just finishing the dishes - when you know who called. Well I said I'd go of course. I had nothing ready, nothing to wear. I got in the tub. I still don't remember getting washed. In the meantime Patsy came down and I told her I had a date with the cutest boy, so between Marilyn & Patsy running up and downstairs getting clothes, pins, earrings, etc. I finally managed  to get dressed. Of course I was quite CALM through all this. Margaret cam in, so she got in the act too. She cleaned up the kitchen, washed the floor, fixed the refrigerator. This was all done in one hour.

I forgot to tell you he really is a very nice fellow, clean, smart, catholic, what more could you want.

Well when he got here everyone was dying to see what he looked like. (They did think he was nice looking.) He couldn't find the house when he got here so he parked up the street and walked around looking for the number. So after introducing him (his head is still spinning it was done so fast), we left. Well when we were walking to the car his first classic remark was what a neighborhood you can't even read the numbers on the houses. He didn't know what a very tender spot he hit! The car was a beaut, vintage 1929 (I think). The windows were all cracked, a hole in the floor you couldn't step in it toohard or your foot would go through. But it went God only know how and we rattled down the street. Crossing the car tracks was quite a treat. He even remarked on the cobblestone in front of Turner Center by this time all I sad was well just call this the brickyard.

So we finally managed to get to the show the Surf. The picture wasn't bad. So then we came home. He made me very nervous so I kept asking him questions about himself. He was real talkative. Invited him in for tea all this time I was trying to get him out of his shell. I know now why he has ulcers he didn't relax one minute. He was so serious. He left about 11:30 and I guess I was relieved.

Anticipation was much better than the realization. Either that or I'm a confirmed old maid. Or could it be I haven't got what it takes?

Well Betsy did a very bad thing last Thursday night. She konked out on me and Pa had to tow me home (I hiked it). Luckily it was only from Will's store. So I had to get a new battery and now she is fine.

The enclosed Money Order is for the mass intentions if you haven't torn this up by the time you get to this point.
